Higher Education’s Next Era: A Pathway to Innovation through an Industry-Aligned Data Standard - THETA 2025

Chief Growth Officer, Ingenuity Partners

Presentation Summary

We’re thrilled to present a groundbreaking initiative: the creation of APAC’s first unified data standard for the Higher Education and Vocational sectors. Developed in collaboration with CAUDIT, this new data framework will revolutionise how institutions manage and share information, breaking down siloes and creating smoother, more efficient operations across the education sector.

Imagine a world where student records, academic credentials, and learning experiences flow effortlessly between universities and vocational institutions, empowering students to move through their educational journeys with ease. Australia’s National Skills Passport is just one example of how this future is coming to life—allowing students to carry their qualifications across institutions, fueling lifelong learning, and adapting to the needs of today’s evolving workforce.

At its core, this unified data standard is about speaking a common language—one that enables seamless communication between systems, institutions, and even countries. Much like how Europe uses English to bridge linguistic barriers, this standard will create a consistent framework for managing and sharing data across institutions, removing inefficiencies and breaking down long-standing siloes.

We’ve seen the transformative power of standardisation in industries like finance, where the LIXI data model has simplified communication between banks, and in superannuation with the SuperStream initiative, which has saved billions by consolidating scattered accounts. Now, it’s time for education to experience the same leap forward.

For universities, this shift means more than just operational efficiency—it’s about creating a more personalised, flexible, and responsive learning experience. From micro-credentials to competency-based education, this standard will enable institutions to better support students, track their progress, and ensure they’re job-ready in a rapidly changing world.

In this presentation, we’ll explore how this data standard will transform the entire student journey, from initial engagement through to lifelong learning. We’ll dive into how it aligns education with industry needs, enhances the student experience, and ultimately creates a more inclusive, agile, and globally competitive education system. Join us as we discuss how this initiative can help shape the future of learning.

Navitas is leading the way as the first organization to build and implement their integration layer aligned with the CAUDIT Data Standard. Warwick Calkin, GM of Technology & Services at Navitas, will highlight how this pioneering move enables seamless integration for their partner universities, streamlining connectivity and enhancing the student experience. This alignment ensures a smooth transition from Navitas courses to university curricula, making it easier for students to navigate their educational journey.

University partners involved in this initiative: University of Sydney, Macquarie University, Swinburne University of Technology, UNSW, UNSW College, Monash University, University of Technology Sydney (UTS), University of Western Australia, Deakin University, La Trobe University, University of Newcastle, Murdoch University and University of Tasmania (UTAS).
