A full house comprising 41 IT, library and research staff from Australian and New Zealand universities and organisations have successfully completed the 2018 CLI Program. Held at Sanctuary Cove, Qld, participants spent an intense week elevating their individual leadership skills and gaining valuable insight and understanding into the high level workings of organisations within the higher education and research sector.
The participants in attendance showcased the maturity, strength and quality of those currently working in the sector. Their participation reflects the commitment to staff development by their employers (university and research organisations within Australasia) with their continued investment and development of the CAUDIT Leadership Institute as the benchmark for leadership standards for over 20 years.
New session Strategy, Culture & Politics was introduced into the 2018 program and delivered in three interwoven perspectives that navigate through political minefields, craft positive culture and develop new strategic direction.
Overall, initial survey feedback from the 2018 cohort has identified Decision-Making in Ambiguity as the most highly rated session closely followed by Resilient Leadership, Leading with Emotional Intelligence and Executive Insight guest speaker Prof. Aidan Byrne.
The CLI is run exclusively for IT, Library and eResearch staff within the sector with 25 CAUDIT member organisations supporting staff participation in 2018. This is broken up into the following stats:
2018 was a significant year as we welcomed Mike Day, CIO, University of Sydney to his first year as a faculty member as well as farewelling Gene Spencer, Chief Information Officer at Ursinus College, Pennsylvania, USA, who participated in his final program having joined the faculty in 2013. Gene was presented with the CAUDIT Meritorious Award in recognition of his significant contribution made towards the advancement of Information Technology, Libraries and eResearch support in the higher education sector, and service to CAUDIT through his participation on the CAUDIT Leadership Institute faculty.
Faculty members volunteer their time to the CAUDIT Leadership Institute. This involves two significant trips away from their place of work and families and countless hours in-between researching and updating session content to ensure that it reflects good practice and relevant material. The work of the faculty make the CAUDIT Leadership Institute stronger and more valuable to the sector each year.
