As a valued contributor/stakeholder in the eResearch sector in Australia, representatives from CAUDIT member institutions are invited to participate in the 2017 AeRO National Forum, to be held on the 4th of May 2017 in Canberra.
The annual AeRO National Forum is a one day event that attracts senior staff from AeRO member organisations, eResearch leads from institutions, NCRIS capabilities, discipline communities, research centres, funding bodies, government and other agencies. Representatives from the Department of Education and Training also attend.
The 2016 Forum had 80+ attendees from 50+ organisations, and we expect this year to be even bigger!
It is clear the major challenge facing the eResearch sector is the rapid growth of research data, its capture, use and longer-term preservation, across a diversity of platforms and tools. Sustainability is important but so is agility and adaptability, to allow research and researchers to thrive. Key objectives for this year’s forum are to understand the future needs of the research communities, the institutional approaches to supporting their researchers, and what the various eResearch capabilities are currently working towards.
Our context includes the emerging National Research Infrastructure Roadmap, and its draft suggestions about an Australian Research Data Cloud (ARDC). The Forum will seek to identify issues and requirements to help in part inform the planning for an ARDC, and how that concept might sit within the national research framework going forward. It will also help to guide and shape AeRO’s future.
