2017 CAUDIT Spring Members Meeting

CAUDIT member representatives and invited guests joined together at CAUDIT’s 2017 Spring Members Meeting in Brisbane last month and listened to a number of stimulating presentations on Business Transformation and Information Security.

Day 1 highlights included Julie Canepa’s presentation on Cisco’s internal IT section’s digital journey over the past 8 years; Andrew Phillips from AWS talking about organisational change and failure; and the breakout session on business transformation.

Day 2 saw the switch to information security with highlights being Michael Draheim’s presentation on digital transformation at Australia’s first large-scale digital hospital – Metro South Hospital and Health Service; along with presentations from Garrett O’Hara (the Anatomy of an Attack); Fergus Brooks (Cyber, The Fast-moving Target); Craig Dore (Cybersecurity. Is this what ‘Working’ looks like) and Tim Wellsmore (Advanced Threat Actors Targeting the Australian Education Sector). An update on AARNet’s Cyber Security Plans was also well received.

The CAUDIT Cybersecurity community was well represented on the day with an update from Chair Tim Lane, IT Security Projects Manager, Griffith University and representation on the information security panel which closed out Day 2.  The panel session was thought provoking and provided the participants with a great deal of perspective when it comes to managing the risk within their institutions.    The panel comprised of:

  • Amanda-Jane Turner, Adviser, National Partnerships Team, CERT Australia
  • Richard Addiscott, Director, IT Planning, Governance & Security, Curtin University
  • Kym Morris, Associate Directors, Digital Security and Risk, Western Sydney University
  • Simon Elisha, Head of Solution Architecture, ANZ Public Sector, Amazon Web Service.

Speaker Bios and presentations from the meeting are available from the CAUDIT website.  The next meeting of CAUDIT member representatives will be the 2018 Autumn Members Meeting being held in Canberra.
