Chair of the CAUDIT Cybersecurity Community of Practice, Tim Lane (SCU) attended an invited event by ACS to a Cybersecurity round table held in early Decemer in Sydney, NSW, titled "Global approaches to building resilience, the cyber security ecosystem and staying on top of old and new threats". The panel included the Hon Philip Dalidakis, Victorian Minister for Small Business, Innovation and Trade, Ms Sandra Ragg Assistant Secretary Cyber Policy Office of the Cyber Security Special Adviser, Department of the Prime Minister and Cabinet and Major General Stephen Day, former Head of Cyber at the Department of Defence and inaugural Head of the Australian Cyber Security Centre (ACSC). There were also international guests joining from China, Sri Lanka, Britain, Malaysia, and the US.
Tim noted that it was an extremely worthwhile event to be invited to and highlighted how serious Australia is starting to take cybersecurity and its intentions about developing cybersecurity as an export industry, as well as insights into international efforts such as from Japan, the Netherlands and Israel. In addition he made some good contacts and gained additional information on the ACSC Brisbane based Information Sharing Centre being established as well as the collaboration with 8 Melbourne Universities on cybersecurity with government through the new cybersecurity incubation and innovation centres being developed in Victoria.
Tim has advised that he intends to pursue any opportunities for how the sector might participate or benefit from the Brisbane based CERT Information Sharing Analysis Centre and see if VDIT CoP participants can get further information into the cybersecurity innovation centres in Victoria.
