Gerrit Bahlman

Gerrit Bahlman is the Director of Information Technology at Massey University and has been involved in the strategic planning, development, management and design of administrative, academic, research and communications support systems at Massey University since 1989.

Gerrit completed his MSc in 1976 at Canterbury University and holds a Diploma in Teaching from the Christchurch College of Education. He began his career in education at Christ's College where he developed expertise in the use of computers in education and administration and wrote articles on information technology and related subjects for the Christchurch Press and "Bits and Bytes". He was the founding President of the New Zealand Computers in Education Society. As an Aid Advisor for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs he worked in a bilateral aid project introducing information technology to the member countries of the University of the South Pacific developing and delivering information technology based courses to the region and contributing to the design of administrative systems. His focus at Massey is on the strategic deployment of information technology in a context which has seen the University grow from 20,000 to 33,000 students, the development a new greenfields campus and the merger with two other institutions. His involvement in administrative and academic support systems development, services and strategies has been extensive. Gerrit has served on the faculty of the CAUDIT-EDUCAUSE Institute for two years, beginning in 2000.



Anne Dwyer
Anne Dwyer

Anne Dwyer is the Director of the Information Technology Division at the University of Technology, Sydney. She is responsible for the strategic planning and management of IT across the University, including all infrastructure, user support services and core enterprise applications. Anne has a BBus(Acc) and GradDip in Information Systems Management from Charles Sturt University (MCAE). She began her career as an accountant holding various financial and administrative management roles at Ansett prior to moving into IT management in the late '80s. Following this she was the Director of IT for Arthur Andersen's Australian and New Zealand operations for 4 years before joining UTS in June 1999.


David J Ernst
David J Ernst

David J. Ernst is the Chief Information Technology Officer (Assistant Vice Chancellor for Information Technology Services) at the California State University (CSU.) He provides information technology leadership for the 23-campus CSU system. He serves on the Boards of IMS Global Learning Consortium and the MERLOT Project.

Prior to joining the CSU in 1995, David was a senior manager consulting in higher education for Coopers & Lybrand. Over the past twenty-five years, David has held senior management and information technology positions at UC San Diego, Stanford University and UC San Francisco. He holds Bachelor's Degrees in Political Science and Rhetoric and a Juris Doctor Degree from the University of California, Davis.


Sally-Anne Leigh
Sally-Anne Leigh

Sally-Anne Leigh is a senior manager with Scholarly Information Services, a part of the Division of Information at the Australian National University. She has also recently been responsible for the implementation of a teaching and learning infrastructure at ANU. Prior to joining the ANU two years ago she was with the University of Canberra working with information systems and services. She has been working in the IT and digital information environments for the past 15 years previously having been responsible for Management Information Systems at the Department of the Prime Minister and Cabinet.

She is also a member of the teaching staff at University of Canberra where she teaches, issues in contemporary management including leadership, performance management and analysis, strategic management and entrepreneurship.

She has a Bachelor of Asian Studies from the Australian National University majoring asian languages and literature, a Masters Degree in Public Administration from the University of Canberra and is currently undertaking a PhD focussing on knowledge management and data communities.


John Lockwood
John Lockwood

John Lockwood is currently semi-retired and works as an independent IT consultant in the private and public sectors. He had been Director of Information Technology Services at the University of South Australia for 9 years prior to his retirement from the university in 2001. He has worked in IT and Higher Education since 1968. John has served on the faculty of the CAUDIT-EDUCAUSE Institute for four years, beginning in 1998. He was appointed Director of the Institute in November 2001.



Peter Sidorko 
Peter Sidorko

Peter is the Deputy Librarian (Reader Services) at the University of Hong Kong. In this role Peter is responsible for public services provided by the Library including the extensive range of IT related services for which the University Library is renowned. Peter has been in this role since late 2001. Prior to taking up this role, he was Manager of the Client Services Program in the Information and Education Services Division at the University of Newcastle in New South Wales. In this role Peter held responsibility for a range of services including information access and support services through several libraries, faculty librarian services, computer laboratory management, IT desktop support through Service Level Agreements, software sales and site licence management and student training in IT and information literacies. Peter held this position for three years. Prior to this he held a range of positions as a senior Librarian for 13 years including that of Law Librarian at the University of Newcastle, a position he held for 7 years. His interests and areas of expertise include information and IT literacy, quality client services and improved service delivery as well as managing organisational change. Peter holds a Bachelor of Mathematics from the University of Newcastle and a postgraduate Diploma in Information Management from the University of New South Wales. Peter has been a member of the faculty of the CAUDIT-EDUCAUSE Institute since 2001.



Neil Thelander 
Neil Thelander

Neil Thelander is currently the Director of Information Technology Services at Queensland University of Technology. Neil started his broad career in the Australian Federal Government working in the Tax, Customs and Health Departments. After 13 years within the public sector he began working with Oracle specialising in system integration for two years. From there he moved into private consulting for four years specialising in project remediation and management. His extensive experience in this area led to a senior executive appointment within The Queensland Health Department, which he held for over eight years. Neil has now brought this experience in IT strategy and service delivery to QUT's IT department, Information Technology Services. His work at QUT has and continues to focus on fusing the IT and the business aspects of QUT - highlighting the value QUT can gain from IT and helping the IT department understand its role in supporting QUT's business objectives. 2001 is Neil's first year as a member of the CAUDIT-EDUCAUSE Institute faculty.



Jeannie Zappe 
Jeannie Zappe

Jeannie Zappe is client services group leader in Information Services and Resources at Bucknell University in Pennsylvania. In this position, she leads the user services group, serves on the organization's leadership team, and plays a leading role in ongoing organizational development in the merged IT/library environment at Bucknell. Her responsibilities also include managing the centralized functions of the department's large contingent of student employees. She has worked in a number of information technology roles at Bucknell, including user support, training, hiring and staff development. Jeannie holds a Bachelor of Science from Penn State, and a Master of Science in Business Administration from Bucknell. She has served on the Educause Professional Development Committee and has been a faculty member of the Educause Institute Management Program for three years, beginning in 1999. Jeannie was recently a visiting faculty member in the Kelley School of Business at Indiana University.
