Gerrit Bahlman is the Director of Information Technology at Massey University and has been involved in the strategic planning, development, management and design of administrative, academic, research and communications support systems at Massey University since 1989. Gerrit completed his MSc in 1976 at Canterbury University and holds a Diploma in Teaching from the Christchurch College of Education. He began his career in education at Christ's College where he developed expertise in the use of computers in education and administration and wrote articles on information technology and related subjects for the Christchurch Press and "Bits and Bytes". He was the founding President of the New Zealand Computers in Education Society. As an Aid Advisor for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs he worked in a bilateral aid project introducing information technology to the member countries of the University of the South Pacific developing and delivering information technology based courses to the region and contributing to the design of administrative systems. His focus at Massey is on the strategic deployment of information technology in a context which has seen the University grow from 20,000 to 33,000 students, the development a new greenfields campus and the merger with two other institutions. His involvement in administrative and academic support systems development, services and strategies has been extensive. Gerrit has served on the faculty of the CAUDIT-EDUCAUSE Institute for two years, beginning in 2000.
Jan A. Baltzer is Senior Vice President, Strategic Services for COLLEGIS, Inc., one of the leading providers of computing and technology services to higher education institutions in the United States. Prior to joining COLLEGIS, Jan was Senior Partner at Baltzer-Sutton Associates, an information technology consulting firm focusing on higher education. Jan's higher education information technology management experience includes serving as Vice President for Information Services and Chief Information Officer of the Apollo Group, Inc. in Phoenix, Arizona (parent company of the University of Phoenix and Western International University), and as Director of Computing and Communications for the Maricopa Community Colleges, the largest community college system in the United States. Jan is past chairperson of the American Association of Community Colleges Instructional Telecommunications Consortium, past chairperson of the CAUSE Editorial Committee, and has served as a member of the national advisory boards of the Corporation for Research and Educational Networking (CREN), the National University Teleconferencing Network and the Public Services Satellite Consortium. For five years, Jan served on the faculty of the CAUSE Management Institute in the U.S.; for three of those years, she was Director of the Managers Program of the Institute. Jan has served on the faculty of the CAUDIT-EDUCAUSE Institute for four years, beginning in 1998.
Cedric S. Bennett is Director of Information Systems Delivery & Support at Stanford University. He has been a part of information technology senior management in higher education for over twenty-five years. Prior to Stanford, he was Director or Facilities Management for Computer Synergy, Inc., an information technology services company in the private sector. Ced began his career as a programmer/analyst and held both technical and management positions in information technology for the electronics, wholesale/retail, health care, and IT services industries in addition to his career in higher education. He was a member of the CAUSE Board of Directors from 1985 through 1989 serving as Secretary/Treasurer in 1986 as Chairman of the Board in 1987. He was instrumental in the creation of the CAUSE Management Institute in 1990, in its direction through 1995 and as a faculty member through 1997. A frequent speaker at professional conferences and seminars, he holds a BA in philosophy from San Francisco State University and has completed graduate work in both cybernetic systems and business. Ced has served on the faculty of the CAUDIT-EDUCAUSE Institute for four years, beginning in 1998.
Sally-Anne Leigh is a senior manager with Scholarly Information Services, a part of the Division of Information at the Australian National University. She has also recently been responsible for the implementation of a teaching and learning infrastructure at ANU. Prior to joining the ANU two years ago she was with the University of Canberra working with information systems and services. She has been working in the IT and digital information environments for the past 15 years previously having been responsible for Management Information Systems at the Department of the Prime Minister and Cabinet. She is also a member of the teaching staff at University of Canberra where she teaches, issues in contemporary management including leadership, performance management and analysis, strategic management and entrepreneurship. She has a Bachelor of Asian Studies from the Australian National University majoring asian languages and literature, a Masters Degree in Public Administration from the University of Canberra and is currently undertaking a PhD focussing on knowledge management and data communities.
John Lockwood is Director of Information Technology Services at the University of South Australia. He is responsible for the management of all information technology infrastructure associated with the university's five campuses in the metropolitan area and the rural campus at Whyalla, 400 Km from Adelaide. He is currently involved in a major project involving the development of an integrated approach to flexible delivery. He is particularly interested in the planning processes of higher education to ensure that information technology resourcing is aligned with institutional priorities. John has served on the faculty of the CAUDIT-EDUCAUSE Institute for four years, beginning in 1998.
Linda O'Brien is currently Executive Director of Information and Education Services and University Librarian at The University of Newcastle. As Executive Director, she is a member of the University's executive team with responsibility for ensuring the delivery of high quality, customer-focussed, cost-effective education, information and technology services. This includes accountability for information and communication technology strategic planning, policy and services, library services, teaching and learning support including curriculum, instructional design and evaluation services, educational media design and production services, and general and academic staff development. Over the last fifteen years Linda has worked in a number of universities in a variety of library and information technology management roles. Linda holds a Bachelor of Education from the University of Sydney, a Graduate Diploma in Library and Information Science from Kuringai CAE, and a Masters in Public Administration from the University of Canberra. She is an associate member of the Australian Library and Information Association and a member of the Australian Computer Society. Linda has served on the faculty of the CAUDIT-EDUCAUSE Institute for four years, beginning in 1998.
Peter is the Manager of the Client Services Program in the Information and Education Services Division at the University of Newcastle in New South Wales. Peter's program represents the flagship of the Division's integration philosophy. The program provides a range of services including information access and support services through several libraries, faculty librarian services, computer laboratory management, IT desktop support through Service Level Agreements, software sales and site licence management and student training in IT and information literacies. All of the library reference desks now provide integrated IT and library support services. Peter has been in this position since the beginning of 1999. Prior to this Peter held a range of positions as a senior Librarian for 13 years including that of Law Librarian at the University of Newcastle, a position he held for 7 years. His interests and areas of expertise include information and IT literacy, quality client services and improved service delivery as well as managing organisational change. Peter holds a Bachelor of Mathematics from the University of Newcastle and a postgraduate Diploma in Information Management from the University of New South Wales. 2001 is Peter's first year as a member of the faculty of the CAUDIT-EDUCAUSE Institute.
Neil Thelander is currently the Director of Information Technology Services at Queensland University of Technology. Neil started his broad career in the Australian Federal Government working in the Tax, Customs and Health Departments. After 13 years within the public sector he began working with Oracle specialising in system integration for two years. From there he moved into private consulting for four years specialising in project remediation and management. His extensive experience in this area led to a senior executive appointment within The Queensland Health Department, which he held for over eight years. Neil has now brought this experience in IT strategy and service delivery to QUT's IT department, Information Technology Services. His work at QUT has and continues to focus on fusing the IT and the business aspects of QUT - highlighting the value QUT can gain from IT and helping the IT department understand its role in supporting QUT's business objectives. 2001 is Neil's first year as a member of the CAUDIT-EDUCAUSE Institute faculty. |
