Gerrit Bahlman

Gerrit Bahlman is the Director of Information Technology at Massey University and has been involved in the strategic planning, development, management and design of administrative, academic, research and communications support systems at Massey University since 1989.

Gerrit completed his MSc in 1976 at Canterbury University and holds a Diploma in Teaching from the Christchurch College of Education. He began his career in education at Christ's College where he developed expertise in the use of computers in education and administration and wrote articles on information technology and related subjects for the Christchurch Press and "Bits and Bytes". He was the founding President of the New Zealand Computers in Education Society. As an Aid Advisor for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs he worked in a bilateral aid project introducing information technology to the member countries of the University of the South Pacific developing and delivering information technology based courses to the region and contributing to the design of administrative systems. His focus at Massey is on the strategic deployment of information technology in a context which has seen the University grow from 20,000 to 33,000 students, the development a new greenfields campus and the merger with two other institutions. His involvement in administrative and academic support systems development, services and strategies has been extensive.


Jan Baltzer

Jan A. Baltzer is Senior Vice President, Strategic Services for COLLEGIS, Inc., one of the leading providers of computing and technology services to higher education institutions in the United States. Prior to joining COLLEGIS, Jan was Senior Partner at Baltzer-Sutton Associates, an information technology consulting firm focusing on higher education. Jan's higher education information technology management experience includes serving as Vice President for Information Services and Chief Information Officer of the Apollo Group, Inc. in Phoenix, Arizona (parent company of the University of Phoenix and Western International University), and as Director of Computing and Communications for the Maricopa Community Colleges, the largest community college system in the United States. Jan is past chairperson of the American Association of Community Colleges Instructional Telecommunications Consortium, past chairperson of the CAUSE Editorial Committee, and has served as a member of the national advisory boards of the Corporation for Research and Educational Networking (CREN), the National University Teleconferencing Network and the Public Services Satellite Consortium. For five years, Jan served on the faculty of the CAUSE Management Institute in the U.S.; for three of those years, she was Director of the Managers Program of the Institute. Jan has served on the faculty of the CAUDIT-EDUCAUSE Institute for three years, beginning in 1998.


Ced Bennett

Cedric S. Bennett is Director of Information Systems Delivery & Support at Stanford University. He has been a part of information technology senior management in higher education for over twenty-five years. Prior to Stanford, he was Director or Facilities Management for Computer Synergy, Inc., an information technology services company in the private sector. Ced began his career as a programmer/analyst and held both technical and management positions in information technology for the electronics, wholesale/retail, health care, and IT services industries in addition to his career in higher education. He was a member of the CAUSE Board of Directors from 1985 through 1989 serving as Secretary/Treasurer in 1986 as Chairman of the Board in 1987. He was instrumental in the creation of the CAUSE Management Institute in 1990, in its direction through 1995 and as a faculty member through 1997. A frequent speaker at professional conferences and seminars, he holds a BA in philosophy from San Francisco State University and has completed graduate work in both cybernetic systems and business. Ced has served on the faculty of the CAUDIT-EDUCAUSE Institute for three years, beginning in 1998.


Geoff Dengate

Geoffrey Dengate is the Director of Information Technology Services (ITS) at Griffith University in Brisbane, Australia; a position he has held since 1991. Prior to this appointment, Geoff was the Manager of Information Technology Services at the University of Queensland. Geoff played a major role in the integration of IT support services across the six campuses of Griffith that resulted from the amalgamation of five different institutions over the 1990/91 period. On 1 July 1997, all IT support at Griffith was placed under centralised ITS management requiring further significant attention to organisational issues. Geoff has been a member of the CAUDIT Executive since 1996 and is on the Board of Directors of Impart Corporation, one of the Federal Government funded Cooperative Multimedia Centres. Geoff is a member of the EDUCAUSE Evolving Technology Committee. He has a Bachelor of Science, a Graduate Diploma of Information Processing, and a Master of Business Administration, all from the University of Queensland. Geoff is a member of the Australian Computer Society, the Australian Institute of Management, and the Australian Institute of Company Directors. He has served on the faculty of the CAUDIT-EDUCAUSE Institute for three years, beginning in 1998.

 


Darrel Huish

Darrel Huish is Director of Applications and Consulting for Information Technology at Arizona State University. He has served as co-chair of his university's student process reengineering project, and has been involved in a collaborative project for a statewide course transfer guide as well as piloting a performance-based incentive pay program. He has been a faculty member in the EDUCAUSE Institute programs for several years. 2000 is his second year as a member of the faculty of the CAUDIT-EDUCAUSE Institute.


Sally-Anne Leigh

Sally-Anne Leigh has recently taken up a senior position as part of the ANU Library Executive (soon to be the Information Division) at the Australian National University. In her previous position at the University of Canberra, she was responsible for ensuring the delivery of high quality, cost effective, and customer focussed Library services. Her responsibilities also encompassed a wide range of training including both student and staff information technology programs as well as general staff development. Sally-Anne has been involved in a wide variety of training and information technology management roles over the last fifteen years including responsibility for the Executive Information Systems at the Department of the Prime Minister and Cabinet. Sally-Anne holds a Bachelor of Arts in Asian Studies from the Australian National University, a Masters in Public Administration from the University of Canberra, and is currently completing her Professional Doctorate in knowledge management and data communities. She is involved with the Australian Institute of Training and Development, the Australian Institute of Management, is on the ACT Branch Council of the Australian Library Information Association and is a member of the Information Technology and Printing Industry Training Advisory Board. Sally-Anne has served on the faculty of the CAUDIT-EDUCAUSE Institute for three years, beginning in 1998.


John Lockwood

John Lockwood is Director of Information Technology Services at the University of South Australia. He is responsible for the management of all information technology infrastructure associated with the university's five campuses in the metropolitan area and the rural campus at Whyalla, 400 Km from Adelaide. He is currently involved in a major project involving the development of an integrated approach to flexible delivery. He is particularly interested in the planning processes of higher education to ensure that information technology resourcing is aligned with institutional priorities. John has served on the faculty of the CAUDIT-EDUCAUSE Institute for three years, beginning in 1998.


Linda O'Brien

Linda O'Brien is currently Executive Director of Information and Education Services and University Librarian at The University of Newcastle. As Executive Director, she is a member of the University's executive team with responsibility for ensuring the delivery of high quality, customer-focussed, cost-effective education, information and technology services. This includes accountability for information and communication technology strategic planning, policy and services, library services, teaching and learning support including curriculum, instructional design and evaluation services, educational media design and production services, and general and academic staff development. Over the last fifteen years Linda has worked in a number of universities in a variety of library and information technology management roles. Linda holds a Bachelor of Education from the University of Sydney, a Graduate Diploma in Library and Information Science from Kuringai CAE, and a Masters in Public Administration from the University of Canberra. She is an associate member of the Australian Library and Information Association and a member of the Australian Computer Society. Linda has served on the faculty of the CAUDIT-EDUCAUSE Institute for three years, beginning in 1998.
