CAUDIT Business Plan - 2005

Three-year goals from the Strategic Plan:

  1. Develop and maintain good working relationships with the AVCC, CAUL, ACODE, Government Departments and other appropriate organisations.
  2. Continue to improve the CAUDIT-EDUCAUSE Institute program.
  3. Continuously review how CAUDIT supports its members and implement necessary changes.
  4. Facilitate the widespread adoption of best practices in Information Technology through the promotion of standards and use of benchmarking.
  5. Develop a mechanism for continuous professional development of CAUDIT members.
  6. Foster intra-sector cooperation in the solution of Information Technology challenges.

Consideration will be given to holding a joint meeting with ACODE and CAUL.

Conducting Cooperative Activities Maintain a close relationship with EDUCAUSE to allow development of activities (e.g. Access to CAUDIT data in the EDUCAUSE Core Date Survey, EDUCAUSE in Australasia 2005 and the CAUDIT-EDUCAUSE Institute. Providing professional IT advice as required to key decision makers in the Higher Education Sector Produce responses to key issues relevant to information technology in the university sector, and provide input on relevant issues to the AVCC and Government enquiries.

These will involve time on the part of the Executive Officer (Projects), members of the Executive and members in general, as appropriate. Costs are expected to be limited to travel expenses and to the Executive Officer's time.

    Exchanging information among Members The Executive Officer (Administration) will ensure that relevant information, whether developed by CAUDIT members or from outside agencies, is made available to all members by means including email and inclusion on the CAUDIT Web pages, which will continue to be maintained at Curtin University on a fee-for-service basis at a cost of $5,000 in 2005.     The Senior Project Manager will undertake or co-ordinate the production of occasional papers on the impact of information technologies on the university sector.

    Overheads The CAUDIT Office will be run at locations in Canberra and Toowoomba. The overhead costs of this operation, including the time of the Executive Officer and the Senior Project Manager not devoted to specific projects, are included here as are the costs of holding Executive Meetings, and other miscellaneous costs. In 2005, it is planned to hold six face-to-face meetings of the Executive plus electronic meetings as required. Where possible meetings are scheduled to be held in conjunction with other meetings such as the two CAUDIT General Meetings. Meetings scheduled are:

    • Monday 31 January. Meeting. Sydney. Prior to Sun Forum.
    • Tuesday 5 April. Meeting. In conjunction with CAUDIT General Meeting on 4 April. Auckland.
    • Monday 6 June. Meeting. Brisbane. Joint meeting with ACODE and CAUL Executives.
    • Monday 4 July. Meeting. South-East Queensland. In conjunction with the QUESTnet Conference.
    • Sunday 6 November. Meeting. Canberra.
    • Monday 5 December. Meeting. Venue to be decided.In conjunction with a joint meeting with the ACODE and CAUL Executives.

    The Executive Officer (Admin) and Senior Project Manager's salaries (and oncosts) are attributable to the above activities in varying amounts, and to the running of the CAUDIT Offices.
